The Power of Celebrating Small Wins: How to Build Momentum in 2025
In today’s episode, we’re diving into a simple yet game-changing practice: celebrating small wins.
As we step into 2025, many of us are setting big goals and New Year’s resolutions. But here’s the truth: most resolutions fizzle out before the end of January. Why? Because we overlook the power of small, consistent progress.
In this episode, I’ll share:
- The brain science behind celebrating small wins (hello, dopamine and neuroplasticity!).
- How shifting your focus to tiny victories rewires your brain for success.
- A powerful tool called the AH List to track your achievements and build unstoppable momentum.
- Why celebrating even the tiniest steps toward your goals can radically transform your mindset and energy.
Plus, I’ll give you practical examples and tips to start celebrating your wins—no matter how small they may seem—so you can create the life you’ve been dreaming of.
What You’ll Learn in This Episode:
- Why most New Year’s resolutions fail by National Quitters Day (the second Friday in January!).
- The importance of celebrating small wins to break free from self-doubt and build confidence.
- How to create a success mindset using the neuroscience of celebration
- How a simple shift in focus—from what’s not working to what is—can transform your energy and motivation.
- Practical steps to create and use your AH List for long-term success.

Welcome to the Magnetic Creator Podcast.

:I'm your host, Melanie Mishler, and each
week we have intimate conversations about
3
:the things that matter most in life.
4
:My superpower is helping you
remember who you truly are,
5
:a powerful, magical creator.
6
:I give you proven tools to help you
get unstuck and manifest a life that
7
:sets your heart on fucking fire.
8
:Are you ready?
9
:Let's go.
10
:Hello, hello, my beautiful friend.
11
:Welcome back and happy new year.
12
:I can't even believe it's already 2025.
13
:Can you believe it?
14
:I was thinking about this and it
feels like It was just yesterday when
15
:that whole COVID fiasco happened and
here we are five full years later.
16
:And I don't know about you, but
for me, I noticed time flying
17
:by more quickly every year.
18
:Maybe it's because my daughter's older
now, but it seems like when we get
19
:to milestones like five or 10 year
markers, and so now we're now we're
20
:at the five year marker of something
that really, uh, took us all by storm.
21
:It's really easy to look back
and see how far we've come.
22
:And also to see the
places where we are still.
23
:stuck, right?
24
:The places where we might have
continuously set New Year's goals
25
:or set visions for ourselves
that just keep getting stuck.
26
:Or maybe we're, we're creating the same
New Year's resolutions over and over
27
:or just not getting traction on the
things that are really important to us.
28
:So today I actually had an episode
planned, but this morning in
29
:my meditation, I was inspired
to completely change it up.
30
:So if today's episode speaks to you, I
want you to know that I'm recording this
31
:This is a time when most of us
are making plans, making visions,
32
:goals, New Year's resolutions.
33
:All of those things for our new year.
34
:And what's really interesting
is that for most people, they'll
35
:set these really big goals or
really big New Year's resolutions.
36
:I know I have been very guilty of this
in the past, but they don't create
37
:the foundation or the scaffolding
in order to support them, which is
38
:why so many New Year's resolutions
And I'm not sure if you know this,
39
:but there's actually a date for it.
40
:The second Friday in January is
called National Quitters Day.
41
:It's basically the day when most people's
New Year's resolutions fizzle out, right?
42
:Right now is the time when everyone's
joining the gym and joining weight loss
43
:programs and big things for the year.
44
:And if you go to the gym,
all the classes are full.
45
:And by the end of January, the
classes are back to normal, right?
46
:So today I want to talk to you about
something that's really important
47
:that will help you hold your visions
and maintain momentum towards those
48
:important goals, instead of having
them fizzle out like everyone else's.
49
:And friends, this concept is so
simple, but I want you to stick with
50
:me because it's so fucking powerful.
51
:And I will get into the science behind
this because very often what happens
52
:is when we have very simple tools, we
tend to overlook them because we think
53
:they're not really important or we don't
understand what's happening in our brain.
54
:And today what we're talking
about is celebrating small wins.
55
:And I mean tiny wins, tiny baby
steps of progress towards our goals.
56
:I'm talking about
celebrating every damn thing.
57
:Here's why this is important.
58
:I'm going to use myself as an example
of how I used to set New Year's goals
59
:or set resolutions, or it doesn't
even have to be a New Year's goal.
60
:It can be any goal.
61
:A couple of years ago, I set a goal to
go to the gym, lose weight, get in shape,
62
:be more healthy, all the things, right?
63
:And what would happen is the days
when I would schedule the gym and
64
:then it would come time for me to
go and I decided, I'm just so tired.
65
:I'm going to go tomorrow instead.
66
:And I would not follow
through with myself.
67
:What would happen is I would get these
feelings of guilt, disappointment, maybe
68
:a little shame, kind of embarrassment
that I'm not following through on myself.
69
:All of those things But then on the
other hand, the times when I actually
70
:did show up when I woke up at 6 a.
71
:m.
72
:and drug my ass to the gym and showed up
fully, I didn't so much as acknowledge
73
:or give myself a high five or a
good job or any kind of celebration.
74
:I just kind of let it go.
75
:And many, many people do this, not just
with a gym, but with any kind of goal
76
:or vision that we have for ourself.
77
:We have a tendency to focus on what's not
working, to focus on the areas where we're
78
:falling short instead of celebrating the
small successes, instead of celebrating
79
:our progress and building momentum.
80
:And what happens is the more we
practice beating ourself up, not
81
:encouraging ourselves, talking
shit to ourselves, all the things,
82
:the more likely we are to quit.
83
:Whereas, on the other hand, the more we
celebrate, the more likely we are to gain
84
:momentum and keep going towards our goals.
85
:Now, I'm going to break this
down for you really simply, okay?
86
:Because if you are a mom, or maybe
an auntie, or anyone Who's ever
87
:potty trained a toddler or supported
a toddler as they learn to walk.
88
:Here's the thing.
89
:We do a little celebration every
time they use the bathroom, right?
90
:I know when my daughter was young,
we did this little happy dance
91
:every time she used the potty.
92
:We sang a song and did this
dance and let me tell you.
93
:If you can celebrate your kid not
shitting in their pants, then you
94
:can celebrate your small wins, right?
95
:The same thing with when your
child's learning to walk.
96
:Every time they fell down or every time
they stumbled, you didn't look at them and
97
:say, you're never gonna fucking get this.
98
:Like this is pointless, forget it.
99
:This is a hopeless case.
100
:No, we encourage them.
101
:We know that mastery
comes from repetition.
102
:So the funny thing is that we know
this intuitively when we're teaching
103
:our toddlers how to use a bathroom
or teaching them how to walk.
104
:But for ourselves, as we get
older, we tend to focus on our
105
:shortcomings, the things that
aren't working versus the steps that
106
:we're taking towards our success.
107
:But when we flip that script, when we
start really celebrating the tiniest
108
:little wins, then we build momentum.
109
:And what we do is we build
resiliency in our brain, and then
110
:we can take this and we can overlay
the confidence that we build.
111
:And we can overlay this on
other parts of our life.
112
:And then over time what happens
is because of the neuroplasticity
113
:in our brain, it rewires itself.
114
:Our brain is always rewiring itself,
but this creates a success mindset where
115
:our brain starts to get wired to expect
progress and achievement instead of
116
:disappointment in ourself, instead of
sitting in shame and all of those things.
117
:And it almost like creates a
fabric or a template for our
118
:brains for our future success.
119
:And then what happens is as we're
acknowledging these small wins, it's
120
:wiring ourself, it's shifting our brain's
attention from what's not working, which
121
:creates stress, to what is working,
which is that positive response.
122
:I want you to remember that our
brains are very primitive still.
123
:They're wired to look for danger,
to look for stress, to look for
124
:anything that could harm us.
125
:And when we are beating ourself up
for not following through, when we're
126
:sitting in shame and all of those
things, that is a stress response.
127
:It's building strength in that
stress response within our brain.
128
:But when we celebrate, just like a
child learning to walk, every time
129
:you celebrate, they get stronger,
they build confidence, and it
130
:encourages them to keep going.
131
:So I want you to think of your New
Year's goals like you're fucking
132
:potty training yourself, okay?
133
:We're going to celebrate every tiny win.
134
:And next, I want to give you a tool
that my coach taught me a few years ago,
135
:and to this day I use it all the time.
136
:She called it the ah list.
137
:And basically, you write down.
138
:All of your accomplishments,
anything that you're proud of
139
:yourself for accomplishing.
140
:And for me, it wasn't just
about my accomplishments.
141
:It was also about surviving
certain traumas, overcoming things.
142
:Being adaptable to certain things.
143
:All of that stuff got on my all list.
144
:And what you do is when you create
this list, I want you to just go back
145
:through your life from your childhood
and write down anything that you
146
:think is an accomplishment, anything
that you're proud of yourself for
147
:doing, anything that you overcame
148
:and then once you have this, you can
look at it and you can use this as a
149
:template for your future successes, right?
150
:reminds us that not only can we overcome
challenges, but that we're really fucking
151
:capable, that we can do hard things,
152
:that we can set and reach goals.
153
:And what happens very often is that
we'll set a bunch of goals and we'll
154
:have progress towards our small ones,
but those big dreams, those ones that
155
:are important for our legacy, that are
important for our life fulfillment,
156
:we are not getting traction on them.
157
:And it can be a huge confidence killer
to have those just kind of sitting in
158
:limbo, to not have momentum towards them.
159
:,
It can create this kind of energetic friction, or it's almost like itchiness
160
:under our skin, or discomfort.
161
:And so we can use this ah list to
remind us of our power, to remind us
162
:of our ability to achieve big things.
163
:So even though it might not feel like
you're getting traction on your goal
164
:right now, those small tiny things, those
small baby steps, are actually traction.
165
:We just don't acknowledge
them usually because we are
166
:looking for huge milestones.
167
:And I want you to stop looking
for those huge milestones.
168
:I want you to start breaking them
down not only into the tiniest steps,
169
:but into the tiniest accomplishments.
170
:If your goal is to build a thriving
business and you take one tiny step
171
:towards that today, celebrate it.
172
:If your goal is to get into shape or
to be more healthy and you actually
173
:show up for yourself by going on a
15 minute walk, celebrate that shit.
174
:If your goal is to find love this
year And you reach out to one person
175
:and have one date, celebrate that.
176
:Let's stop looking for what's wrong
and start looking at what's right.
177
:Look, looking at our tiny successes,
the tiny things that we're doing right
178
:to reach our goals, to get momentum
179
:and live fully in our power.
180
:, okay, friends.
181
:So I want you to make your AH list write
down all the things that you're proud
182
:of, all the things that you succeeded in,
make it even the smallest little things.
183
:This shifts our energy, it increases
our vibration, and it creates an
184
:energetic template that you can overlay
on other parts of your life as you
185
:start working towards those big goals.
186
:And especially as you go through
periods of struggle, because it's
187
:not always happy, happy, easy, easy.
188
:It's work, reaching our big
goals, whatever they are.
189
:There's often work and struggle
in there and that's okay, but
190
:once we have this template of.
191
:Acknowledging our huge successes, even
our small successes, then we can use
192
:that as a template and as a booster to
keep us going when we get frustrated or
193
:disappointed or when we have setbacks.
194
:Okay, friend.
195
:I know this is the simplest concept ever.
196
:I don't know why I had to share this with
you today, but it was important to share.
197
:So if this speaks to you,
198
:I want you to really take this to heart.
199
:And
200
:if you are ready to create some
unstoppable momentum in:
201
:I still have a few seats left in my
upcoming course, Manifestation Mastery.
